Job Description

The Whitespace Platform went live in August 2019. It is a truly digital platform used by brokers and underwriters in the London market to agree the terms of insurance contracts, including writing and signing lines and issuing endorsements.

The QA Analyst will support Whitespace in continuing to provide quality software to an ever-growing customer base. Thorough and imaginative testing is critical to the success of the Platform. Whitespace takes pride in delivering an excellent, intuitive customer experience at a pace its competitors cannot match.

This role requires someone who can grow and adapt with the company, who is eager to learn and progress a career within the Platform team. Full training on in-house and industry specific systems will be provided.

Responsibilities

Testing

  • Oversee the testing of the Whitespace Platform using both the Browser and iOS App, including:
    • Managing and reviewing end-to-end scripted testing of existing functionality, ensuring coverage and accuracy.
    • Validating and triaging issues found during testing to confirm their validity and prioritization.
    • Leading the team in scripted testing of new functionality and ensuring all critical paths are covered.
    • Driving exploratory testing sessions based on complex business scenarios.
    • Coordinating initial testing of new functionality following development, ensuring readiness for release.
    • Ensuring re-testing of issues is completed in a timely and efficient manner after fixes are deployed.
    • Review and ensure the proper capturing of testing evidence (including replication steps, screenshots, videos, etc.) in line with Whitespace testing guidelines.
    • Act as a key contact for Business Analysts and the Head of Customer Experience to resolve complex business scenario or Platform behaviour queries.
    • Provide mentorship and guidance to QA team members in validating issues and determining their significance.
    • Ensure all issues are logged and tracked in the appropriate systems, adhering to Whitespace issue logging standards.
    • Strategically lead automation testing efforts, including API testing, and ensure optimal test coverage.

    Test Script Preparation, Update and Maintenance

    • Collaborate with Business Analysts to ensure new test scripts are prepared for functional enhancements, while prioritising critical areas of the Platform.
    • Oversee the review and improvement of existing test scripts, ensuring they reflect comprehensive business scenarios and address any identified gaps.
    • Guide the team in maintaining and refining test scripts to ensure alignment with business requirements and system changes.

    Insurance Knowledge

    • Explain complex insurance concepts to fellow QA’s to help them understand why a new piece of functionality has been implemented and why it is working in a particular manner.
    • Field questions from fellow QA’s in relation to specific behaviours and how it might affect end users.

    Other Responsibilities

    • Act as a key stakeholder in familiarising the team with new functional requirements, ensuring business drivers and requirements are clearly understood and communicated.
    • Oversee and contribute to the development of automated testing frameworks using Cypress and Selenium for web applications.
    • Spearhead API automation initiatives using JavaScript and ensure robust test coverage for APIs.
    • Ensure the team maintains detailed documentation of all test cases, test results, and logs to ensure traceability and accountability.
    • Regularly review and report on the status of testing efforts, providing feedback to the team to ensure continuous improvement in quality.
    • Drive the adoption of tools like RestAssured, Java, TypeScript, and Jenkins to deliver efficient and reliable automated tests across the team.
    • Collaborate closely with analysts and designers to ensure technical implementations align with user needs and business priorities.
    • Facilitate cross-team collaboration with developers to plan implementation strategies and review code changes for quality assurance.

  • When required, oversee the preparation of:
    • Acceptance criteria for new functional enhancements.
    • Training guides/videos to support knowledge sharing and onboarding.
    • Release notes to ensure clarity for end users and stakeholders.
Compliance & Training

  • Adhere to all company & regulatory policies and procedures as instructed.
  • Carry out all training provided to deadlines prescribed.
  • Work with compliance on IT relevant areas such as Data Security and Financial Crime
  • Execute the responsibilities of a company employee acting in a lawful and ethical manner in accordance with your contract of employment and company staff handbook.
  • Work with department manager for own professional development, including performance appraisal and identifying and meeting training needs in order to ensure competence and compliance with current regulations.

Qualifications

  • At least 7 years of QA experience, including leadership or management roles in complex and agile environments.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Professional Insurance Qualifications are not required but would be advantageous.
  • Proven experience in leading automation testing efforts using Java, JavaScript, or similar languages.
  • Expertise in API and integration testing, with hands-on experience in mentoring others in this area.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to oversee and validate the work of others.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A proactive and reliable leader with a strong work ethic and ability to motivate team members.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills to oversee team activities and ensure alignment with project goals.
  • Comprehensive insurance domain knowledge, with the ability to translate business requirements into actionable QA activities.
  • Extensive experience in application testing, user-acceptance testing, and developing test strategies.
  • Deep understanding of testing methodologies and frameworks.
  • Knowledge of the London and other insurance markets is advantageous.
